Literature Text

You take my hand,
I melt inside.
Your face lights up
As you look into my eyes.

Then you say those words,
You say, "I love you."
I just can't help but
Wonder if you really do.

Because I've seen you with others,
And you always say the same thing:
"I love you, you're the one
For whom I've been waiting.

I just wonder: How many
Have heard those same words
Only to watch as you
Leave them broken and hurt?

How many hands have you held
Before you held mine,
And swore that you would love
Even till the end of time?

I’m just one of many,
I know that’s true.
You say it is not so
But I know better than to believe you.

I turn my head in doubt
You say you will be faithful to me
But how can I be sure
That you are not lying?

I turn my back
Pull my hand away
You ask me, “Why?”
This is all I can say:

“I want to believe,
I really do.
But I can’t, because I know
This is all a game for you.

There is always another girl
To be pursued when you tire of me
When I’m gone, you’ll forget
Who I was quite easily.

Sorry to be blunt,
But I deserve more
Than to be a toy
You play with till you’re bored.

How many hearts have you broken?
How many others have spent nights
Thinking of you with a broken heart,
How many tears did they cry?

How many have realized too late
That you were toying with their hearts
And tried to pull themselves back together
After being completely torn apart?

How long will you go on
Before you finally see?
Playing is not going to get you anywhere,
Especially not with me."
My best friend was going out with this one guy who was a player. He cheated on her at least twice, and yet he still insists that he loves her. She seems to believe him, but if I were her, this is how I would react.
